Bill splitting shouldn't be an awkward process.

With our team of three, we devised a user-flow based on analyzing competitors in the bill splitting space. Although other apps could split bills, they lacked personality and felt like one was calculating rather than conversing. In addition, they required each person wanting to split the bill to download an app. That's something we wanted to avoid when creating divvi, as it should not be required of the table to download another app on their phone.

OUR SOLUTION

Facilitating that 'awkward' conversation.

Ourreceipt scanner app focuses on facilitating a productive conversation between you and your fellow meal splitters by itemizing your receipt and calculating the totals owed by each. We prioritized the user experience and wanted to promote chatter at the table rather than detract from it.

APP DEMO

Showcasing our work.

We used the API to scan receipts in order to easily list the items ordered. Once the receipt is scanned, each item is presented to the user to select who had what item.

The app demo provides the user instant feedback with running totals beside each person's name. In addition, the demo provides a look into how bill splitting would work when food was split between multiple people. These features were derived during our initial user flow process.

This project was completed in less than 24-hours and was a blast to work on. It won Best Use of a Google API at CuseHacks 2020! In the future, we'd want to experiment with restaurant integration to avoid having the user scan their own receipts.
